Immigrant Pupils and the Irish Language in Republic of Ireland Primary Schools

Résumé

Recent immigration, which became significant in the 1990s, has changed the outlook of many Irish primary schools. As part of their mission is to promote the use of Irish as the national language, it is interesting to see how this affects immigrant children in their midst. In order to see the impact the Irish language can have on the inclusion or exclusion of immigrant pupils within primary schools, qualitative data collected as part of three case studies of Roman Catholic schools will be presented.
