Le Silence et La Menzogna.

In France, Pippo Delbono shows his work sometimes in French – as was the case for Il Silenzio – and sometimes in Italian – as with La Menzogna. This alternation between an Italian version with surtitles and a version translated into French tends 167 to generate different responses from a francophone audience. The use of French may contribute to an impression of alienation, or again foster a sense of complicity with the audience; while switching from one language to the other enables the director to shape and adjust the border between real space and imaginary space.
En France, Pippo Delbono présente ses spectacles parfois en français, comme Il Silenzio, et parfois en italien : c’est le cas de La Menzogna. Cette variation, d’une version en italien sur-titrée à une version traduite en français, entraîne une différence dans la réception du spectateur francophone. L’usage du français semble parfois contribuer à des effets de distanciation, ou encore à la naissance d’un sentiment de connivence entre salle et scène ; l’alternance entre français et italien permet de moduler la séparation entre l’espace réel et l’espace imaginaire.
