« Orientalisme contemporain : Spring, Heat, Rains. A South Indian Diary de David Shulman »

Résumé

Spring, Heat, Rains. A South Indian Diary by David Shulman – professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an expert in South India during his mission in Andhra Pradesh in 2006 – is an eminently singular text that disrupts the traditional order of foreign and familiar: it’s both the diary of a scholar, full of knowledge on the other, and an exotic travelogue which is also a return to the well-known and to the self: this is why it embodies a new form of contemporary orientalist production. This article attempts to show that this work reconnect with the ancient Orientalism of the British rulers, while not ceasing to break with it, by the invention of an intimacy that leads, not without difficulties, from the imagination of India to the indianisation of imagination.
