Between June, 1940 and August, 1944, France was witness to the use of two opposing brands of propaganda, that of the government of Vichy and that of the Occupation authorities. the French Government of Vichy attempted to present a type of national propaganda aimed at the French people as a whole and featuring hexagonal, harmonious and federal imagery agreed upon by consensus and destined to be used throughout the Occupation. A fundamental pillar within the context of this propaganda is the personification of power in the figure of Marshal Pétain.
